![]() Halo 4 introduces a new alien planet, a new race of vicious enemies, and a new leader overseeing them. However, the story begins to fall apart whenever it takes its focus off of these two characters. It’s heartbreaking and makes Master Chief feel more human than ever before with his love and care for her. The Halo series has always done a great job of depicting their relationship in a way that feels genuine and makes you question the possibility of romance with an AI, but Halo 4 feels more familial and treats Cortana’s deteriorating state like a person suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s. Halo 4 is largely centered around Cortana’s mental decline and sees Master Chief hopelessly looking for a way to reverse her condition. Halo 4 does a commendable job of both closing out the remaining story threads of Halo 3 and setting up the plot for a new trilogy, although it does occasionally stumble.Īfter the events of Halo 3, Master Chief’s AI companion Cortana has been rapidly entering a state of programming called “rampancy”, making her lose control of her thoughts and emotions. In their absence, 343 Industries was formed as the new studio to take over the reigns, with Halo 4 being their first foray into the beloved sci-fi universe. The Halo series was originally created by a studio called Bungie, although they moved on from the franchise after Halo: Reach to create the now extremely popular Destiny. Unfortunately, it’s not the smoothest transition.Īlright, time for a quick history lesson. Playing through all of the previous games back to back has helped with keeping the story fresh in my mind, but despite following through on some previous plotlines, Halo 4 is designed as the first chapter in a new trilogy. Although I had played through it years ago when it first launched, I had forgotten about most of the story and gameplay elements, making this one I was eager to revisit. My run through The Master Chief Collection comes to an end with Halo 4. Available On: PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
